VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Schools across Vigo County received grant funding on Friday to support classroom enrichment opportunities.
The funding was presented during the Vigo County Education Foundation’s Business and Bagels event, which the VCEF holds every fall and spring. The foundation announced grants totaling over $35,000 to 19 schools.
Alex Allen is the vice president of the foundation and also the chair of the allocations committee which coordinates the grant process. Allen shared one of the many classroom opportunities to receive a grant.
“One of the schools is going to be bringing in an author, we actually have a couple of schools doing that, but one school is bringing in an author. All of the kids are going to be getting books from this author and then they’re also going to be doing some development within the classes, talking about the books, learning about it, the kids get to meet the author, so a really enriching experience,” Allen said.
The foundation also presented its Leadership Giving Award to Pat Minnis who is a former member of the foundation’s board of directors and established the Joe Minnis Memorial Fund through the foundation in honor of her late husband.
