VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – In an effort to increase school safety in Vincennes, the VPD was awarded two federal grants that totaled $837,422.
According to a press release from the City of Vincennes, the School Violence Prevention Grant funding will allow for the installation of 3M LLumar Safety & Security Film in all city schools (VCSC and Vincennes Catholic), “to deter and delay entry in the case of an attempted forced entry.”
In addition to that, mobile weapon detectors will be bought and utilized during school events for the safety of students and spectators.
“The Safety and Security of our city’s youth is of the utmost importance to everyone in Vincennes and the awarding of this grant is a testament to just that. Under Chief Hillenbrand’s direction, not only will 4 additional School Resource Officers be patrolling Vincennes School Corporation and Vincennes Catholic Schools, but increased safety measures will be in place for the educational day and school events beginning in the 2024-2025 school year,” said Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum.
Both federal grants have never before been awarded in the area.
