PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — First responders are crediting proper safety belt and child safety seat usage for preventing more serious injuries after a vehicle recently struck a tree.
According to the Parke County Sheriff, the incident occurred just after 8 a.m. Thursday just north of the intersection of U.S. 41 and S.R. 163.
Investigating deputies determined the vehicle had been headed south along U.S. 41 when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree in front of a residence.
The vehicle was carrying both a driver and her child. The woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries, while the child was unharmed.
“More serious injuries were prevented due to the use of a proper child seat and seat belts,” a sheriff’s department news release read.
Parke County EMS, Lyford Fire Department, Clinton City Police Department, Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office, and the Clinton City Fire Department assisted in handling the incident.
