VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A banner is now on display inside the Vigo County Courthouse recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness month.
The Council on Domestic Abuse, also known as CODA, held a ceremony on Thursday. Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun was also in attendance and read a proclamation for the event.
The CODA staff hope the banner will raise awareness.
“Really it’s about showing the community that we’re serious about taking a stand and supporting them and we have the services that they need and we do care and we do believe them and we do want to be a part of that change,” Alicia Marks, Director of Sexual Assault Programming at CODA said.
“Everyone who comes into the courthouse can see that April is Sexual Assault Awareness month,” Marks said. “It provokes questions that bring education. It shows that we do actually have legal office here that helps those who are facing domestic violence and sexual assault.”
CODA has advocates on call 24/7 and offers emergency shelter, resources, and referrals.
Those interested in contacting CODA can call 800-566-2632, or talk with a representative through their online chat feature. chat feature on the CODA website.
