TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The first-ever “fill-a-truck” event kicked off this week as local first responders asked for community assistance to help families in need.
The event takes place every Friday through December 8 with the goal of filling local ambulance and fire trucks with items such as non-perishable foods, clothes, and toys.
Each Friday, local EMS agencies and Terre Haute Regional Hospital will be at different locations across the Wabash Valley.
This Friday, they were at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute trying to fill up a Terre Haute Fire and Trans-Care Ambulance truck.
“There are a lot more folks in need than in the last several years. We see them in and out of our ambulances, we see them in and out of the ER and this is a way for us to help them be better and not just medically,” Brian Ketterer, EMS Coordinator for Regional Hospital, said.
Ketterer said they are also taking cash donations.
The donations from this Friday’s event will be donated to Catholic Charities.
“In fire and EMS, we tend to see things in the worst possible light and to try and help change that light, this is one where fire and EMS really feels good about being able to help folks not just in their time of need just from an emergency standpoint but just in general,” Ketterer said.
Locations will be open each Friday through December 8 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. each day.

- November 24: Sullivan Walmart
- December 1: Brazil (TBD)
- December 8: Rockville IGA
Participating agencies include Regional Hospital, THFD, Greene County Ambulance Service, Sullivan County Ambulance Team, Trans Care, Parke County EMS, Star Ambulance and United Life Care.
