CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Brazil Mayor Brian Wyndham and the Clay County Parks Association met at City Hall Tuesday afternoon, to complete funding for a project they hope will decrease vandalism for local parks.
Mayor Wyndham presented the Park Board Association with a check for $2,000. The money will be used on a project to increase security cameras at parks in the area.
“Forest Park is where most things occur; that’s probably where we have the most liability and the most vandalism,” Wyndham said. “Although we will look at these type of systems for Craig Park, and Wheeler Park as well.”
Clay County approached Purdue University Capstone and Engineering Professor Fred Berry a little over a year ago about working with the county on the most cost-effective solution to address current vandalism issues.
“So one of the things that our students did was come down and talk to Clay County Parks Department,” Berry said. “Then the students came back and did a lot of research and presented various different possible solutions to the problem.”
President of the Clay County Parks Association Cindi Mondes-White said the solution they’ve selected will be one of the most cost-effective ways to get a better handle on vandalism.
“Moving forward we’ll be able to actually buy the cameras, and install them into the public parks,” Mondes-White said. “Making our citizens and the community at large safer.”
Although there is no set date to when the cameras will be installed for the parks, the association hopes they will be installed by next spring.
