TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Running is hard. But, what if on a three-mile trail there were several musicians playing music and cheering you on as you exercised?
If that interests you, you’re in luck because a first-of-its-kind race is coming to the Historic 12 Points Neighborhood.
The ‘Rock the Block 5k’ is set for August 27.
The race day schedule is as follows,
7:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. – Packet Pickup and Race Day Registration
9:00 a.m. – Race Starts
9:30 a.m. – Post-race band begins playing
10:00 a.m. – Post Race Awards
11:30 a.m. – Band’s last song
Runners will begin in 12 Points, run through Collett Park, go to Maple Avenue Nature Park, and finish back in 12 Points.
Along the course, several musicians will be spread out playing music to cheer on participants.
“The goal is as you stop hearing music from one musician, you faintly hear the other start playing,” Event Organizer, Mark Baker said.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the 12 Points Revitalization Project and Collett Park Neighborhood Association.
“Essentially [12 Points and Collett Park are] just very blended neighborhoods. If we’re going to be doing all the work in revitalizing the commercial area of 12 Points, it just makes sense to highlight some of the other assets in this neighborhood, like Collett Park,” Baker added.
Registration is $25 for an adult and $12 for anyone under the age of 17. To register, click here or here.
Racers can use the promo code “KID FREE” to get a kid registered for free with every adult registration.
“[Collett Park and 12 Points] these are two really important pieces of infrastructure in the Northside. We really want people to enjoy it and know we are here. If we’re growing the 12 Points area, this is just another part of it,” Baker said.
Attendees will walk away with a shirt, post-race refreshment and could win an award.
