TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Every year we celebrate the founding of our parent company Nexstar Broadcasting by doing a community service project.
Today workers from WTWO/WAWV headed to Ryves Youth Center in Terre Haute to complete both outdoor and indoor projects.
Several workers helped paint a pre-school room and hallway. Since 1982, Ryves has offered services to children ages 3-17. Many of the children who attend are from homes that are well below the poverty level, some are homeless.
Outside of the building staff cleaned up a playground by weed eating, laying mulch and cleaning equipment. A sandbox was also installed.
Those at Ryves Youth Center say they appreciate the effort.
“We’re super excited to put some fun colors in here and kind of lighten up the mood for the kids because our kids don’t have anything,” Ryves Pre-school director Tanja Gardner. “So we wanted to do something a little nice for them and brighten the place up and give them a nice place to learn.”
WTWO VP and General Manager Tim Sanders said the station was happy to be able to help such a good cause.
“Today is a really big day for us as a station. Our staff does not just want to report the news, but we also want to be a part of this community and make a difference,” said Sanders.
Nexstar Broadcasting is celebrating 26 years Friday.
