VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The City of Vincennes plans to use Hoosier Enduring Legacy Program funding to hire a Community Coordinator that will help bolster the community.
The Community Coordinator will help manage around $3.5 million of American Rescue Plan Act funds. Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum said that this position will act as a liaison between the community and local government.
“It’ll help us make sure that we are investing where the public thinks we need to invest in,” Yochum said. “They will help facilitate a lot of the meetings that need to be done to put together a strategic investment plan for the city.”
Yochum explained that the community has played a vital role in previous community development plans, and he hopes that this involvement will continue with the addition of a Community Coordinator.
“The community has done great in the past with our comprehensive plan for the city as well as our downtown plan so this is just another thing we’ve put together to get more public input,” Yochum said.
Yochum left the door open as to what the plan could be regarding the use of ARPA funds. He mentioned possible housing and other community development projects.
“We’re going to look at different things for Vincennes,” Yochum said. “Whether it’s quality of life or housing or anything along those lines.”
Yochum said that he hopes to have a Community Coordinator in place by sometime next year.
