VIGO CO, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana and Indiana Legal Services have filed a lawsuit against the Vigo County School Corporation, citing an incident regarding two transgender students at Terre Haute North High School.
According to the release sent out by the A.C.L.U., school employees denied the students the use of a restroom consistent with their gender identity.
The release continues by saying both students represented in this case have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria and have been prescribed hormone therapy.
“Denying a student their right to use the correct restroom is discrimination, plain and simple. Schools should be a safe place for kids and refusal to allow a student to use the correct restroom can be extremely damaging,” Ken Falk, ACLU of Indiana Legal Director, stated in the release.
Bill Riley, Director of Communications with VCSC says the corporation has no comment on pending litigation.
