KANSAS, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — A man was found dead around 6:30 p.m. Friday night in Kansas, Ill., after being ran over by a dump truck being used to fill a pool.
Benjamin Boddy, 20, of Kansas, and another man were using a 1993 Ford dump truck to help a friend fill a swimming pool when the incident occurred, according to a news release from Edgar County Coroner Scott Barrett. While emptying a water tank being carried by the dump truck, Boddy allegedly walked away from the area and the man with him assumed he just went for a walk around the property.
Once the man had finished emptying the tank, he reportedly called out for Boddy but heard no response and decided to refill the tank without him. As the man was pulling the truck off the property, he discovered Boddy was actually laying underneath the truck’s bed and had been ran over.
The man immediately called 911, police say, and Coroner Barrett arrived to pronounce Boddy dead at the scene. Police say it is still unclear as to why Boddy was underneath the truck.
An autopsy on Boddy’s body is set for Saturday at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute.
