TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — After a theater team member at AMC CLASSIC Terre Haute 12 tested positive for coronavirus this week, the movie chain announced the theater will be closed until Nov. 20 while the entire management team quarantines. The closure is said to be due to an abundance of caution and not due to any transmission of COVID-19 among movie patrons; the chain says there have been no reported cases of filmgoer transmission at any AMC theater.
Ryan Noonan, Vice President of Corporate Communications for AMC Theatres, said in a statement:
“From the moment we reopened our theatres, AMC has instituted extraordinary measures to keep the health and safety of its guests and associates our top priority through AMC Safe & Clean, which was designed in consultation with current and former faculty from the prestigious Harvard School of Public Health. As a result, to the best of our knowledge there continues to be no reported cases of COVID-19 transmission at our theatres among the almost 10 million guests at AMC’s theatres globally in the two months since we first reopened.
“This week, one theatre team member at AMC CLASSIC Terre Haute 12 tested positive for COVID-19. Thanks to ensuing contact tracing, the entire theatre management team is now under quarantine. While the theatre was not required to close, out of an abundance of caution and to be extra safe, AMC has decided to close this theatre temporarily for the two week duration of the quarantine, until November 20.”
The statement continued: “As part of AMC Safe & Clean, AMC theatre associates are required to take their temperature prior to going into work and if they are showing any symptoms of COVID-19, they do not come in to work. In addition, the theatre team must maintain proper social distancing guidelines and wear masks at all times while in public areas of the theatre.
“We believe this isolated situation in Terre Haute demonstrates that AMC’s Safe & Clean Protocols are working exactly as intended.”
