CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO-WAWV)—-UPDATE: A news release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office provides more detail on the incident. The release states that deputies responded to the crash in the evening hours of Thursday after an iPhone crash alert system sent the accident to dispatch before several E911 calls came in. When deputies arrived, they discovered the vehicle off the road in a large drainage ditch with extensive front-end damage.
The four occupants of the vehicle were already out of the car by the time deputies arrived and had sustained serious injuries from the crash. The release confirmed two of the individuals were taken by air ambulance to Indianapolis hospitals, while the other two were taken by ambulance to Terre Haute hospitals. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be involved.
ORIGINAL: A single-vehicle crash in Clay County sends four juveniles to the hospital. The crash happened at the intersection of County Road 1200 South and County Road 400 West.
According to Indiana State Police Sgt. Matt Ames, the vehicle was moving at a high rate of speed and attempted to make a turn that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
Four juveniles were in the car and one was taken to an Indianapolis hospital via air evac., the other three were transported to local hospitals, their conditions are unknown at this time.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigating agency.
