TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Starting September 3, the Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club will be providing an after-school program.
This service will only cost $30 for the entire school year. They will provide a hot meal and a snack provided by the Vigo County School Corporation.
Its Unit Director Ashton Stevenson said they will provide homework help and planned games and activities every day. She said that every kid deserves to have a safe place to go after school.
“It is so important that after school the kids have a fun and safe place to be,” Stevenson said. “A lot of parents work during the evening hours, so we are here to stay open until 7 p.m. and offer that space for them to be here and provide some fun activities for them to be a part of as well.”
This will also allow kids from all Vigo County schools an opportunity to see and interact with each other every day. Stevenson said these connections are what makes this program so special.
“Every year we get new kids along with the ones who return,” Stevenson said. “Seeing the growth that the kids have and forming the relationships with the kids is not only beneficial to them, but it is also beneficial to us.”
