TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A project aiming to help homeless veterans officially broke ground Friday afternoon.
Veteran’s Village will feature six tiny homes that resemble studio apartments, and they are located on N 23rd Street.
Below is a link to more details on the project.
A recently built pavilion is on-site. In attendance was land donor Carl Cooper.
“This day means a great deal to me being able to donate the land and see a project going forward. We need to get homeless veterans off the street,” Cooper said.
The groundbreaking ceremony also included the raising of the American flag and the flags of the different branches of service.
THAAR, the Terre Haute Area Association of Realtors, is building the tiny homes, and Reach Services will take care of day-to-day operations.
Project Chair Kyle McClain said fundraising for the project will continue with a construction goal starting in the Spring.
“To be able to get to this point and do this for our veterans has been a challenge; it’s been a strong goal of ours. To have this portion [of the project] taken care of is just a really great feeling for us,” McClain said.
If you’d like to donate, THAAR is located at 1616 S 13th Street; their number is 812-234-8732.
