BLOOMFIELD, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – After the final whistle of Bloomfield basketball’s 44-34 win over Eastern Greene, Cardinals fans didn’t go out to celebrate, they didn’t stop off for a bite to eat before going home, they stayed put in Glover Gymnasium.
The lights went out, as they were supposed to, and the student body lit up the gym with flashlights and cellphones. The luminescent scene was all in an effort to shed light on mental health.
Students and staff wore green to the game to show their support for mental health and to bring awareness to the sometimes, stigmatized subject. The effort was organized by Terri Neighbors, the founder of “Erin’s Purpose” outreach.
The outreach is meant to provide a space for teens to speak about mental health while also learning life skills such as; communication, cooking, and even changing car tires.
