SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College has received a grant for the restoration and preservation of its historic entrance.
The entrance gate was built in 1918 and is made of brick, limestone and rod iron.
Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources is giving the college $28,200 to rehabilitate the entrance.
Director of Facilities Josh Wood says the goal is to preserve this historic gate and extend its life for another hundred years.
“This gate is a first impression for everyone who pulls onto our campus and it enhances their avenue moment everytime they walk through or drive through our gates,” says Wood.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College is on the National Register of Historic Places and the entrance is one of the college’s 66 structures listed.
