National Women’s Small Business Month
This month, we’re talking about all of the different ways women small business owners and leaders benefit our community and the world around us. Did you know…
There are over 13 million women-owned businesses in the United States, employing 9.4 million workers and generating revenue of $1.9 trillion.
There are 116 Women’s Business Centers that supported 150,000 women last year, helping their businesses make 1.7 billion dollars and creating 17,000 jobs.
50 percent of women small business owners are women of color.
In 2012, 44 percent of women small business owners also had children under the age of 18 in their household. That means, by supporting women-owned businesses, you’re also supporting families.
In 1972, women only owned 4.6% of all businesses in the United States. Now women own 42% of businesses in the United States.
There are 114% more women entrepreneurs than there were 20 years ago.
October 1988 marks the anniversary of President Ronald Reagan’s signing of H.R. 5050, which is the Women’s Business Ownership Act. This legislation increased federal support of women-owned businesses and made it easier for female entrepreneurs to get working capital, business training, and assistance.
Prior to this bill being signed into law, some states required women to have a male family member co-sign on their business loan applications.

Amanda Saxer
Amanda has been in the spa field since 2004. She started as a Massage Therapist, adding an Esthetics License to expand her offerings a few years later. She started out thinking she would enjoy giving massages and nice relaxing facials. And for many years she did just that. But as she started honing her skills in the field, she unexpectedly realized how much she enjoyed hair removal. No, not because she could take out her troubles on clients (she actually prides herself on being quick, thorough & making your experience great). Hair removal was actually helping clients! In 2018 she discovered Sugaring, a method of hair removal that yields great results and is more gentle on you. In 2019 Sugaring led her to make the leap and open a space that was focused on hair removal, BRAZILIANS & BROWS. In 2022 she added a Medical Director and laser hair removal to better serve you. She is part of a team of 4 Estheticians that specialize in creating a welcoming, fun environment while sugaring, waxing and lasering. She has a BS in Marketing and Management from the University of Evansville. She attended Indiana Business College for Massage Therapy in 2004 and Empire Beauty for Esthetics in 2008. Amanda has completed many continuing education courses including advanced Brazilian Waxing, Introduction to Sugaring, Advanced Sugaring, iSugar University, DermaplanePro and Elysion Laser Certification. When not sugaring the day away she can be found with her love Darin & son Jax, on their hobby farm, reading a book with a cat in her lap, or cooking up new flavors. All while donkeys frolic in the pasture.

Jessica Fields
Campbell Creek was started in August 2016 by Terre Haute native Jessica Fields. After participating in the weekly Terre Haute Farmers Market, Jessica saw the need for a brick and mortar location where she as well as other local artisans could sell their products everyday. As a result, she opened Campbell Creek Artisan Shops downtown in the historic building at 5th and Wabash in October 2017. She and her family put countless hours into renovating the old barbershop, transforming it into a cozy boutique with space for multiple vendors. Initially she recruited artisans from the Farmers Market, but then quickly added a number of other small businesses providing a wide variety of unique, handcrafted items for the Terre Haute Community. Unfortunately, Campbell Creek Artisan Shops became a casualty of the pandemic and Jessica was forced to close the doors in July of 2020. However, through hard work and a lot of faith in God, she was able to reopen her store this time at the Meadows Shopping Center under the name Campbell Creek Plain and Simple. There are local artisans who still sell their wares at Campbell Creek, but the store has also expanded to include additional items as well. All of the products in the store are either made by Jessica or someone in her family or purchased from small businesses throughout the United States.
