Impact Maker for February
Kim Waggoner, Prairie Creek Lions Club
Kim goes above and beyond for her community of Prairie Creek. She is a member of the Lions Club. She has been on missions trips with them to bring sight to those who cannot get prescription glasses in third world countries. She fundraises all year long for her Lions Club and does it with a heart of a giver. She gets free books for the local elementary school through the Lions Club and she oversees the Prairie Creek annual easter egg hunt with enthusiasm. She loves her community and you can visibly see that with all the love she pours into it. I am sure she has single handedly raised 1000’s of dollars over her many years of service.
Impact Maker for January
Sarah Mahady, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College
Congratulations to Sarah Mahady-the January Impact Maker of the Month. She is an individual who is a servant leader and sets the bar high with her contributions to the Vigo County community both professionally and personally.
Sarah is a wonderful and strong example of someone who impacts everything she touches. She not only values our community but values the opportunity to give back to the people and places that make it home. Anyone who knows Sarah has had the opportunity to witness her passion for service and community-building. A former colleague quoted in the Terre Haute Living magazine regarding Women in Business shared the following about Sarah, “She loves like Jesus.”
Sarah has served over the past 10 years as a volunteer catechist, leading religious education for 2nd – 5th graders, guiding the children through significant milestones in the Church and creating inclusive environments geared toward their learning styles and needs. Inspired by the mission of Junior Achievement, Sarah serves on the organization’s Board of Directors, giving her the opportunity to mentor young people, prepare them to succeed and embrace their potential. As a member of the League of Terre Haute, Sarah has made an incredible difference in the lives of local youth through the dental and clothes closet initiatives, preparing them for a successful school year by providing new clothing and supplies.
Her involvement in and impact on local organizations doesn’t end there. Sarah visits local nursing homes and volunteers to chaperone local school dances through the League of Terre Haute. She creates thank you cards for military service members overseas as part of the SMWC Celebrating Service program. You can also find Sarah volunteering at the local food pantry and creating hand-crafted pottery soup bowls to support Catholic Charities Soup Bowl Benefit. One of her favorite annual traditions is hand-delivering Thanksgiving meals to local families in need alongside her own family, showing her children the first-hand impact of giving back.
Today, Sarah serves as the Director of Alumni Relations at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. She is a strong advocate of the College, and more importantly, the students it serves. She has a gift for bringing people together in meaningful ways and building relationships. She continues her work as a service-oriented leader in her professional life, volunteering as the Senior Class Advisor, cheering on the College’s athletics programs, and participating in numerous SMWC campus service projects.
