TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Students at a local elementary school celebrated Black History Month through dance on Friday.
The Epiphany Dance Collective out of Indianapolis performed at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School. They performed an African dance, giving students the opportunity to learn about the culture.
Ruth Clark, Behavioral Interventionist and Chair for the Black History Month Committee, said seeing the interaction between the students and the dance team was fantastic.
“We look at that as something that’s a teachable moment for everyone to be involved in. Just seeing the kiddos interact with that and seeing how they can respond to different cultures, it’s a blessing. It’s a blessing,” said Clark.
Friday’s performance was just one of many events the school is holding for Black History Month. The school has different festivities planned for every day of next week.
