CARLISLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – There are many career opportunities within the Indiana Department of Corrections and a program is helping current employees be involved in the employee recruitment process.
Officials at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle highlighted the Employee Referral Bonus Program on Wednesday.
The program gives current employees the opportunity to recommend people they know, and feel would be qualified, for open positions.
David Wence with the State Personnel Department said many applicants pursue jobs as correctional officers, but added there are a variety of opportunities ranging from case workers to food service workers.
“The employee referral program was implemented just a little over two years ago now and since that time, it’s been a huge benefit for our employees and for potential applicants in the surrounding community,” said Wence.
Victoria Scaggs is a caseworker and was recommended for that job through the referral program. She explained what she does in that role.
“I get to help in the re-entry aspect. I get to help incarcerated indviduals work toward being rehabilitated to be eventually re-entered back into society,” said Scaggs.
Wence added that the program also helps foster teamwork among employees.
