TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — For a lot of families in this area, finding affordable childcare can be very difficult.
Maryland Community Church Outreach Director Dawn Arnold said Family Refuge is here for these people.
“A lot of the time, they just need the extra support that a lot of childcare centers don’t have the capability for, but we at Family Refuge are focused on supporting the entire family,” Arnold said.
Arnold added that these services are especially a need for those within the foster care system after they reunify.
“They often time lose support of the DCS foster care staff and service providers and they really need that extra hand to get back reunified and on their feet,” she said. “Family Refuge was birthed out of a need that we saw for support for families.”
Family Refuge is going to offer childcare services from birth until preschool age, resources and workshops on parenting, financial planning, health and wellness, and multiple community events.
Family Refuge Director Amanda Pendleton said they want this to be a beacon of light for the community.
“We are extremely excited to open our doors and have people coming in every week and to just love on the community and be a light here,” Pendleton said. “We just want to let them know that they are safe, loved, and welcomed.”
Arnold said that they hope these services are able to keep families together and happy.
“I don’t just think about kids as a number in the DCS foster care system, but as I kid that I have had in my home or will have in my home finding great next steps,” she said.
