VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — 2nd Update: The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the two deceased persons from Wednesday’s crash.
The crash resulted in the death of Robert and Kathleen Robinson, both were 74-years-old, and resided in Jasonville.
Chief Deputy Steve Meng added that the crash is still under investigation.
1st Update: According to Vigo County Dispatch, the area of E. Woodsmall Drive and State Road 159 just south of Riley is now open after being closed due to a wreck that resulted in the death of two people.
Original: Two people have died in a crash that happened at E. Woodsmall Drive and State Road 159 just south of Riley.
According to Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse, the wreck resulted in fatalities and a reconstruction team has been called in. Vigo County dispatch confirmed that crews have S.R. 159 closed at the intersection.
“The black pickup track was going east on Woodsmall. According to the statement we got, they failed to stop for the stop sign, the SUV was traveling N. on 159, and they both collided. Right now we have two fatalities,” Lt. Brian DeHart with the Vigo Co. Sheriff’s Office said.
It is unknown how many people were in each vehicle but DeHart confirmed that the other people involved were taken to area hospitals for injuries.
Chief Deputy Steve Meng with the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office posted about the incident and noted that “Both occupants of the SUV were declared deceased on scene by EMS. The two occupants of the truck were both transported to a local hospital for treatment.”
DeHart said drivers should expect SR 159 between Dallas and Riley to be closed for a couple of hours.
Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area as crews work to clean up the scene.
