FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Following the death of a longtime local firefighter from a heart attack, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in Vigo County.
Holcomb directed flags to be flown at half-staff throughout the county on Wednesday from sunrise to sunset in honor of 74-year old Dave Phelps. Phelps died from an apparent heart attack while at the scene of a house fire. He served as a firefighter for 59 years and was named the 2023 Mr. IVFA earlier this year.
Visitation at DeBaun Springhill Chapel runs Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., with the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association conducting a memorial service at the end of visitation.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday morning with a procession travelling to New Harmony Cemetery for the burial service.
