KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — In a press release, Knox County Republican Chairman David Shelton, announced the call of a caucus to fill the vacancy of the Coroner.
The vacancy comes after former Knox County Coroner, Karen Donovan pleaded guilty to a felony charge of possession of meth on Tuesday. In the interim, Deputy Coroner Joe Millstaugh is serving as the acting Knox County Coroner until the caucus decision.
The caucus will take place on Saturday, September 30, at 9:00 a.m. at the Vincennes City Hall.
Individuals interested in being appointed for the unexpired term of the Knox County Coroner must submit a letter of interest and a completed CEB-5 form, found here, no later than 9:00 a.m. on September 27. CALL OF POLICTICAL PARTY CAUCUS TO FILL A VACANCY IN THE OFFICE COUNTY REPUBLICAN CORONER.
As the duly designated Chairman of a caucus of the Republican Precinct Committee Men and Women of Knox County, I, David Shelton, under the rules of the Republican Party and Indiana Election Law, hereby call a caucus. The purpose of this caucus is to select a person to the fill the vacancy of the Knox County Coroner, created by the Felony Conviction of Karen Donovan, (IC 3-8-1-5, IC 5-8-1-38, and IC 35-50-2-1), on September 12, 2023. The caucus will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 30th, 2023, at the Vincennes City Hall, 203 Vigo Street, Vincennes, In. 47591. Individuals interested in appointment to complete the unexpired term of the Knox County Coroner must submit a letter of interest as well as completed CEB-5 form, (form may be found at: https://www.in.gov/sos/elections/election-administrators-portal/election-forms/), no later than 72 hours prior to the Caucus, (Deadline for submission will be 9:00 am on September 27th, 2023). Forms and letter of interest are to be submitted to the Knox County Republican Chairman, David Shelton either in person or by email at: dshelton.knox.gop@gmail.com. All Knox County Republican Precinct Chairmen are eligible to participate and vote in this caucus. In the event of a Precinct Chairman is unable to attend the caucus, their Vice Precinct Chair may vote as the proxy of the Chairman. No other person may be appointed as a proxy. There will not be any form of absentee voting available. All Knox County Republican Vice Chairmen may attend the Caucus but may only vote if designated as a Proxy by the Precinct Chairman.
