TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An estimated 2,000 customers are without power in Terre Haute due to a 3rd party contractor breaching a gas line.
That’s according to Duke Energy District Manager Rick Burger, who explained that as of 12:20 p.m. crews were still assessing the damage before beginning repairs.
Burger said that the incident occurred on Springhill Road where a third party contractor hit a gas line causing damage. While crews are working, Duke will be “dumping loads” or shutting off power to a number of customers in Terre Haute.
A look at the Duke Energy Outage Map for Indiana shows shifting numbers of outages with totals fluctuating between 1,400 and 2,000 customers around 12:20 p.m.
Update: As of 2:40 p.m. only a little over 700 customers remained without power according to the Duke Energy Outage Map.
2nd Update: As of 4:50 p.m. the Duke Energy Outage Map reports zero power outages in the area.
