MEROM, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local festival that’s been going on since 1966 kicks off this weekend.
The long-standing event is the Merom Bluff Chautauqua which features all kinds of fun for the family. There will be a flea market, food vendors, and lots of entertainment.
Highlights include the Little Miss Chautauqua contest on Friday and a parade on Saturday. On Sunday morning there will be church services and gospel music. The festival supports the Merom Improvement Association which offers a scholarship fund to students.
Association member Doug Bates discussed the importance of the festival.
“It brings people to Sullivan County and to Merom. Merom is the highest point on the Wabash river. We need this kind of stuff to bring in revenue so we can do projects in the town of Merom,” Bates said.
Again, the Merom Bluff Chautauqua kicks off this Friday at noon and continues all day Saturday and into Sunday morning.
Bates also said there is no admission fee.
