VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The city of Vincennes has been given two grant awards totaling $200,000 by the Indiana Housing Community Development Authority (IHCDA)
The grant funding will be used in an effort to provide the HOME Tenant-Based Rental Assitance Program for residents who have been formerly incarcerated.
According to a press release from the City of Vincennes, the following two awards have been presented:
- HOME Tenant-Based Rental Assistance
- HOMES-American Rescue Plan Supportive Services
The press release also said the IHCDA noted the selection process for the grant donations was highly competitive, but was happy with the response from Vincennes and is looking forward to working with the city.
Having a history of involvement with the Homeless Task Force since its beginning, Mayor Joe Yochum has been actively involved with the growing needs of people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity in the community.
Identified as a priority for the city to address, the HELP pathway committee focused on addressing homelessness.
“This is the first step in the City’s investment into the prevention of homelessness. When IHCDA offered an opportunity to apply to help our residents, we did not hesitate to apply. Vincennes Police Department, Good Samaritan, Children & Family Services, and Life After Meth already has in place in our community. We are pleased to do our part as the City,” Yochum said.
The Tenant-Based Rental Assistance and Supportive Services programs will begin in March and carry on throughout Sept. of 2025 or as long as the funding will maintain the program.
