CLARK COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) – Update: One person was taken to a hospital following a crash involving two semi-trucks on I-70 near Marshall late Tuesday.
According to Indiana State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 8:19 p.m. on I-70 westbound near mile marker 150.
Police said the crash happened when one semi was attempting to return to the roadway after having been stopped on the shoulder and merged too closely in front of a second semi. The second truck struck the back of the first, lost control and veered off the interstate into the median.
As a result of the collision the rear truck’s cargo came loose and crashed into the truck itself.
The driver of the second truck was taken to a regional hospital for treatment of what’s being described as minor injuries. The driver of the first truck that was hit while merging reported no injuries.
Traffic was slowed in the area as lanes were shut-down for cleanup for some time Tuesday evening.
Original: Traffic was backed up overnight after a portion of I-70 was shut down due to a crash involving two semis. The wreck happened in the westbound lanes near Mile Marker 150, three miles from Marshall, Illinois.
One lane was shut down while Clark County Sheriff, Marshall Fire and Rescue Department, and Illinois State Police work the scene.
