TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Terre Haute Children’s Museum is currently working on building a new exhibit that will work in collaboration with the highly-anticipated 2024 solar eclipse.
The new exhibit, titled A Total Eclipse of the Haute, will be open on Feb. 15 and will be located in the revolving exhibit space on the 3rd floor. A Total Eclipse of the Haute will have a ton of fun and engaging activities centered around the celestial event that will help to prepare children for the unique and astonishing occurrence.
Renee Henry, the Director of Education at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum described the goal of creating an exhibit that collaborates with events taking place out in the community by using the exhibit space to help children approach the on-goings of their community from a place of learning.
“I like children’s museums. They are really exciting places because there’s lots of happy smiles and the kids are always excited. Our challenge is to educate them through play, but it’s a challenge that I really enjoy. So, we cover all kinds of everyday science concepts,” explained Henry.
The space that once held the Under Construction exhibit that opened in 2020 and reflected the construction of the Terre Haute Convention Center will now be turned into an exhibit for children to learn about the eclipse coming in 2024.
While the exhibit is under construction for now, the rest of the museum is still in full swing, offering the newest additions to the Winter Cabin Fever Program designed to help get families out of the house during the cooler months. Programs like “Sensory Babies” aimed at children 3-18 months, “Early Explorers” for children 18 months – 3 years, and “Discoverers” for children 3 years to 5 years are all available.
