CLINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Van Duyn Elementary School decided to give families something to celebrate over the long weekend.
The school hosted its first ever “winter carnival” event, hosting hundreds of children– and for students at the school, Ronda Foster said it came free of charge.
“The Van Duyn [parent-teacher organization] came to me with this idea of having the ice skating and the train. They went with it, they got sponsors for the event, so the PTO, our sponsors and is paying for the Van Dyun students to do it for free,” she said.
Sponsors included the Fairview Park Fire Department, Pastore Bros Lumber, Farrington Excavating and Clinton Walmart. Activities included animals for students to pet, food trucks and an indoor arts and crafts stations to go along with the skating rink and train.
Foster said they had over 500 children come over the two-day event. She said her favorite part was watching students try out ice skating, and she hopes the South Vermillion School Corporation.
