INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Over 700 bills were penned for this year’s legislative session at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis.
A handful of those bills directly relate to the decriminalization and/or legalization of marijuana.
Local Representative Shane Lindauer co-authored a bill permitting the use of medical marijuana for certain people.
Other bills look to decriminalize certain amounts of cannabis, create a process for the cultivation and sale of marijuana in the state, or help with criminal charges related to cannabis.
Governor Eric Holcomb recently said he would not support marijuana legalization until the federal law changes.

In other legislative news, a bill penned by Senator Jon Ford aims to create an audit of two upcoming elections.
The bill would require the Secretary of State to enter into a contract with an independent company to conduct a full forensic audit of both the 2023 municipal general election and the 2024 general election.
The audit would be of 10 randomly selected Indiana counties and would analyze whether correct procedures were followed within the county election offices.
The legislation was referred to the Committee on Elections earlier this week.

Senator Spencer Deery is proposing legislation that would give taxpayers more insight into how their income taxes are spent.
The bill requires the Department of State Revenue to provide each resident individual taxpayer who has paid adjusted gross income taxes with a receipt statement showing how those taxes are being used.
This would include an explanation of distributions to public schools, other political subdivisions and state reserves and would be given out on an annual basis.
The bill is under review in committee.
