FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — As the world learns of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, some Indiana and Illinois politicians are reacting by issuing statements. Here’s a look at what has been said.
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker:
“I join the world in mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II. For over seven decades she led with grace and was an inspiration for many. MK and I send our deepest condolences to her loved ones at this time.”
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb:
“Queen Elizabeth II brought stability and strength to a country who experienced decades of great change during her reign. She led with unflappable class, purpose and vision and will leave behind a legacy that simply can’t be equaled, but in her honor, we should all try. Janet and I send our deepest condolences to the Queen’s family for their unimaginable loss alongside the people of the United Kingdom, the commonwealth and her grieving friends the world over.”
Holcomb is directing flags in the State of Indiana to be flown at half-staff in honor and remembrance of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Indiana U.S. Senator Todd Young:
“Today the world lost a towering figure. The special relationship between our nations was preserved for decades in large part through the Queen’s friendship and leadership. My heart goes out to the Royal Family and the British people as they grieve her loss.”
Illinois U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth:
“Like so many around the globe, my heart is with the Royal Family and all the people of the United Kingdom today. I admire anyone who serves their nation—and there was no better example of that than Queen Elizabeth II. After serving in uniform during World War II and then reigning as Queen for seven long decades, she truly led a life well-lived in service to her nation. Her Majesty led with grace and loved her country so much that she served it until the very last days of her life. May her service and leadership inspire the next generation of leaders in the U.K. and beyond.”
