Sullivan County, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Sullivan woman has been charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon after an incident that police say involved a broken bottle used as a weapon.
Indiana State Police said the investigation began on Tuesday, July 5 when the Sullivan County Dispatch reported an individual being taken to a hospital with stab wounds.
According to police, their investigation led to Ashley L. Coffman, 37, of Sullivan. Police said Coffman had an argument with another person that turned physical. Coffman reportedly used a broken bottle to stab the other person who was able to escape and found a bystander who called 911 for medical care.
After reviewing the investigation the Sullivan County Prosecutor issued a warrant for Coffman’s arrest Thursday, July 7. Coffman was located and arrested by officers without incident.
Coffman faces two charges;
- Battery, a level 5 felony
- Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a level 6 felony
ISP said the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, the Sullivan City Police Department, Shelburn Police, and the Department of Child Services assisted during the incident.
