TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – As the Terre Haute Convention Center nears two months since it’s grand opening, Pam Chamberlain said the prospects were great for many businesses around the city.
“It’s just a big economic boost for Terre Haute.”
Chamberlain, the director of sales and marketing for the venue, also provided a tentative timeline for the opening of the Larry Bird museum, saying the plan is to open in spring of next year.
“We don’t have a definite date or a hard deadline of when that will be, but [the museum is] curating more items every day,” she said.
Chamberlain said the convention center has hosted about 26 events since it opened, and has about 50 lined up for the coming months. She said these range from business conferences, to weddings and even consumer shows that will be open to the public.
Chamberlain said the interest in the convention center also provides opportunities for other businesses around the city.
“We have nearly 700 hotel rooms that are booked [for upcoming events.] So it kind of brings full excitement all the way around,” she said.
“A lot of new people from out of town, a lot of companies are coming, staying in our hotels, going to downtown restaurants.”
Chamberlain also said the convention center is hiring new part-time and full-time employees, and those interested should check out the company’s website.
