TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Ivy Tech hosted its Bowen Scholars Day on campus on Thursday.
The Bowen Scholarship is an award that is open for African-American students.
African-American high school juniors and seniors in the area were invited to get a look around campus. During the event, students heard a lectures from a keynote speaker, participated in breakout sessions and had a tour of the camps.
Some of the topics of the day included leadership and career exploration.
Bowen African American Student Scholarship Coordinator Sonja Jordan that this is an important day for black students.
“We talked to them about this day and let them know that this is for them,” Jordan said. “We want them to feel like they belong and we want to see faces that look like theirs.”
