TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The power of social media helped a cat that’s been in a local shelter for nearly a year finally find a loving home.
Sara Sherrill, the cat caregiver at the Terre Haute Humane Society, started a TikTok page for the shelter. She posted a video of Sasha, a cat who had five kittens, onto the account.
Her kittens had all been adopted, but Sasha still needed a home herself. Her story quickly went viral, with her video getting 200,000 likes and over a million views.
“This video just blew up overnight. I posted it that night and the next morning I woke up and my phone was blowing up,” Sherrill said. “There was lots of people commenting. Lots of people saying that they want her and they love Sasha.”
Sasha captured the heart of a truck driver from New Mexico, who is traveling all this way to adopt her.
“It’s awesome. It’s an awesome feeling. We all love Sasha here,” Sherrill said. “She is just a great cat overall and I’m so glad to finally see her getting a great home.”
Sherrill said they plan to post videos of other animals that have been at the shelter a long time in hopes that they also find forever homes.
