TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vigo County commissioners are considering what’s next for the old Vigo County Jail building.
Commissioners heard proposals from architect’s at Tuesday morning’s meeting. The goal for commissioners is to understand the current structure of the building and if it is worth saving, or if they should start new on that property.
Commissioner Chris Switzer said he values the help of architects as the county moves forward on the future of the old jail.
“What they’re going to do is look at our mechanical, electrical, plumbing, roofing and structures throughout the building and give us ideas of if the building is worth saving or if it can be used for another 15 or 20 years or if we should just start new at that location,” Switzer said. “But ultimately we wanted something to fall back on as county commissioners and guide us in the direction of where to go.”
The completion of the new Vigo County Jail is expected to be next month.
