VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Seniors in the Vincennes and surrounding area will soon have plenty of room for activities after a federal grant program awarded the city $500,000.
The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs recently awarded more than $12.2 million in federal Community Development Block Grant funds to rural communities to assist with projects such as infrastructure improvement, downtown revitalization, public facilities, and economic development.
Vincennes was awarded the $500,000 for expansion of their YMCA Bettye J. McCormick Senior Center. The new 3,450 square foot addition will increase the organization’s capacity to continue providing adult day services and to re-establish its Congregate Meal program for both the aging and disabled populations.

This funding makes it possible for towns, cities, and counties to carry out projects to prevent flooding, provide safe drinking water, or expand community centers. Each of these projects will help to improve the quality of life for local Hoosiers.”
