TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – After countless hours of clean-up, highway officials say roads are nearly back to normal.
Vigo County Commissioner Chris Switzer said that roads are in good condition, but the county will remain in a travel advisory until noon on Sunday.
“There are still some subdivisions and some back county roads that we haven’t gotten to yet,” Switzer said. “We’ll get to them on Monday as quickly as we can.”
Switzer commended the efforts of highway crews for working 12 hour shifts clearing the roads. He said that it took a team effort from all county officials to make the clean-up process swift.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our guys and girls from dispatch all the way to the truck drivers,” Switzer stated. “They’ve done great the last 48 to 72 hours of getting things done.”
Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Sergeant Matt Ames said that cooperation from motorists allowed for INDOT and other highway officials to be able to clear the roads.
“Pretty much everyone stayed at home which allowed INDOT to be out here working and that’s why the interstate is ready to go now,” Ames explained.
Switzer said that the county will be prepared for any future storms.
“We’re prepared and we’re capable and ready to get things done if anything does happen,” Switzer said.
