TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Shoppers are flocking to stores across the Wabash Valley ahead of potential severe winter weather.
Baesler’s Market Marketer Kristine O’Hare said the store has been busy since Monday.
“Usually we pick up at around lunchtime and then through the week like afterschool,” O’Hare said. “But today we’ve just been busy in general.”
O’Hare said Baesler’s ordered extra supplies such as eggs and milk in anticipation for the rush of customers.
Snow removal equipment such as shovels and generators have been in high demand in the area. Rural King Store Manager Chris Dalbey said that the influx of customers stocking up on essential supplies began Monday afternoon.
“I’d say yesterday afternoon at around three to five o’clock that everybody started panicking on the way home from work,” Dalbey said. “The kerosene heaters and generators were big sellers this morning.”
Dalbey stated that supplies were running low Tuesday evening, but he said that more supplies will be shipped to the store by Wednesday morning.
Shoppers such as Avis Heleine decided to get shopping done Tuesday morning before the storms roll in. She said she feared being snowed in without any essential supplies.
“I live way out in the country so I’m afraid I’ll get snowed in with no food,” Heleine said.
