TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A man charged in a 2018 shooting death on Elm Street in Terre Haute has been brought back to Vigo County.
Zavius E. King appeared in a Vigo County courtroom Wednesday morning after being transported from Shelby County, Ky. on Tuesday.
King has been charged with murder, attempted robbery, and possession of a handgun by a serious violent felon. These are all in relation to the September 2018 shooting death of Ronnie Caldwell. Charges were filed in February of 2021 after the initial case had been dismissed in 2018.
According to the probable cause affidavit, authorities were notified on Oct. 13 of 2020 that a firearm had been found in Louisville Kentucky that likely matched the shell casings found in the original investigation in Terre Haute.
The Vigo County prosecutors office said that the delay in bringing King back to Vigo County was due to two reasons, the first being the un-related case in Kentucky. And secondly, because King was in another state a governors warrant had to be issued to get extradition.
