TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The president of the Terre Haute NAACP is hoping to inspire others to get the COVID-19 vaccine by getting it himself.
“We have to lead by example, and hopefully people will take this because it’s serious,” Sylvester Edwards said. “Doing nothing is not an option.”\
Earlier this year, Edwards expressed some skepticism with the vaccine, saying he needed to talk with minority healthcare workers before he’d feel comfortable. After consulting with the Minority Health Coalition in Terre Haute, he received his first dose in February.
His second dose was administered Thursday at the Vigo County Health Department’s vaccine clinic in the former Sears store at the Haute City Center.
According to Edwards, some people still have misconceptions about the vaccine and are skeptical to get it. He said he wants the public to know that the NAACP and the Minority Health Coalition in Terre Haute both support the vaccine.
He encouraged anyone who is eligible to sign up.
