“We’re pleased to announce that the pool is being filled with water and that we’re one day closer to re-opening.” said Vigo County YMCA CEO Ryan Penrod.
Linda Lou Rogers, a member of the group Why Make Waves? said he faced major changes in her body when the pool closed.
“I need to get back in the pool so i can get my life back under control physically,” she said.
Her group came together to support the re-opening of the pool and the good news leaves them with an excited reaction.
“I have been working very hard with members of the Y to do fundraisers to get us back to the place where we could open the pool,” she said.
Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett announced over the summer that the city would take over utilities and maintenance, costing around $50,000 to $75,000 a year.
“We’re appreciative of the city of Terre Haute for helping facilitate this project and investing money into the repairs that were needed to make this project happen,” Penrod said.
Now with the opening in clearer sight, the YMCA will complete some final touches.
“We still have to have an inspection. We still have to order some equipment, aome landlines, some stairs. We have to hire the appropriate staff so that our programs are up and running and ready to go,” Penrod said.
The community can expect to make a splash at the pool in 2020.
