SHELBURN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) —Win Energy REMC awarded more than $10,000 to local organizations as a part of the Operation Round Up program.
Win Energy said that the small change makes a big difference. The Shelburn Police Reserve Association received more than $7,000 to purchase a generator, and Cagle Heating and Coolin agreed to help with the installation.
The generator will be used at the Shelburn Community Center for a warming and cooling location.
Matthew Price is the president of the Shelburn Police Reserve Association and he said the generator will bring the community comfort and hope, and that it’s something they’ve needed.
“We’ve been trying to do this for awhile now. When we had a couple of storms that shut the power off for everybody and at one point it was extremely cold and windy and rainy and the thought was, ‘where are the people going to go?'” Price said.
The Operation Round-Up grants are thanks to Win Energy REMC members who round-up their electric bill to the next highest dollar each month.
Since the program began back in 2013, more than $680,000 has been awarded.
