ST. MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Sisters of Providence celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas Day Mass.
Christmas Mass is a special event for many around the world.
Here in the Wabash Valley, people of all faith traditions were invited to join the Sisters of Providence at St. Mary of the Woods for the mass.
The traditional mass took place in The Church of Immaculate Conception. The sanctuary was decorated for the celebration.
Sister Jeanne Hagelskamp said that on Christmas Day, Christians mark the time that Jesus was born into the world, “We know that he came, Emmanuel, God with us, to bring peace and reconciliation.”
It’s a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and to come together with family and friends.
“I don’t think it’s lost on any of us this year that war rages in the area of the world where Jesus trod. And so we hope that through our lives we can learn to bring peace and reconciliation to others. And that in the Middle East, in Ukraine and Russia, and all the war-torn countries of the world, they might find peaceful ways to resolve their conflicts,” Hagelskamp said. And that here in the United States, where political divisions divide us, that we too might find peaceful ways of resolving our differences,” she added.
