TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Local Kindergarten students helped Terre Haute Police and Santa Claus save Christmas on Friday.
You may have seen on the Terre Haute Police Department’s social media recently that the Grinch has been seen around the city causing trouble, and local police were determined to stop the Grinch from stealing Christmas.
With the help of Kindergartners and Santa Claus, police thwarted the Grinch’s plans. Five elementary schools took part in the effort this week.
Friday was Terre Town Elementary’s turn and teachers said the kids were so excited to help save Christmas.
“Christmas at Kindergarten is such a great age. They have all the magic and all the fun so they are really excited and I just like to keep the fun and the magic of Christmas for them,” Stephanie Barnett, a Kindergarten teacher at Terre Town Elementary said.
The children also got to meet Santa, enjoy snacks, and make “wanted posters” to catch the Grinch. Detective Josh Loudermilk said events like this let kids know police officers are there for them, while it also teaching them some important lessons.
“We use it as an opportunity to teach a little bit about bullying and being kind to one another, how the Grinch when he was little he was bullied, so he made bad decisions as an adult and we love taking that opportunity to teach that kind of life lesson,” said Loudermilk.
The Terre Haute Police Department is grateful for the community’s support which helped make this event possible.
