VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute man facing numerous charges appeared in a Vigo County Court for his initial hearing in the most recent case on Thursday.
Sean Rutherford, 24, of Terre Haute, appeared in Vigo County Superior Court 6 for an initial hearing related to charges of resisting arrest and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Rutherford was recently arrested following a pursuit after police identified him as having possibly been involved in a December 5 fight in northern Terre Haute where at least one shot was fired.
During the hearing Judge Michael J. Lewis reportedly appointed a public defender to represent Rutherford in the case. Judge Lewis also scheduled a bond reduction hearing for January 8, 2024. Currently Rutherford is being held on a $35,000 bond with no 10% allowed.
Court records indicate that Rutherford had been on probation for a 2021 possession of methamphetamine charge at the time of the most recent arrest.
Court records also show that Rutherford is currently dealing with multiple cases in Vigo County, with charges of Possession of meth, counterfeiting, auto theft, and theft from April of 2023. A charge of fraud, forgery, and theft from June of 2023. As well as the most recent charges of unlawful carrying of a handgun, resisting law enforcement, unlawful possession of a firearm, and reckless driving from this month.
Several hearings have been scheduled for Rutherford going forward in court, with hearings set for January 8, March 18, and May 20 in the new year.
