PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Parke County trail running between Rosedale and Rockville that’s currently under construction got a boost thanks to a donation from the Duke Energy Foundation.
According to a release from Duke Energy, the $16,800 grant will allow officials to install informational kiosks, landscaping, benches, and fencing to the first phase of what will be an 11.5 mile trail.
The trail is being constructed by converting an old railroad line. The first phase of the trail connects the existing Rosedale Trail to the Park/Vigo county line and extends the trail north to Big Raccoon Creek.
“The land in this part of Indiana is extraordinarily beautiful and picturesque as it extends
across a rolling agricultural landscape,” Parke Trails Alliance President Miriam Blane said. “This generous grant will help complete the first portion of the trail and fund amenities for local residents and visitors to enjoy.”
Planned signage along the trail will reportedly share the history of the railroad and its impact on the growth of Parke County.
“Tourism is Parke County’s second largest industry, and this project will add to the
attractions that are important to county tourism and will provide a way to draw visitors to
Rosedale,” Duke Energy Government and Community Relations Manager Rick Burger said.
