BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A shooting in Bloomington left one person dead Sunday morning.
Per a statement from the Monroe County Coroner’s Office, the shooting occurred in the 500 block of Park Avenue at approximately 2 a.m.
According to a press release the Bloomington Police Department sent around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, the victim of the shooting was identified as a 23-year-old Bloomington man. BPD reported that a 19-year-old Bloomington man was also shot during the incident.
The 19-year-old was transported to a local hospital, and his injuries are preliminarily believed to be non-life-threatening. BPD indicated that its officers attempted life-saving measures on the 23-year-old victim. Their attempts to save the 23-year-old’s life were not successful.
BPD reported that its officers were dispatched to the area of the shooting on a weapons-related call. When police arrived at the scene, they located numerous individuals exiting a large house party.
According to BPD’s press release, witnesses told investigators a man with facial hair who was wearing a pink shirt produced and handgun and began firing the weapon into a crowd at the party.
Soon after BPD began investigating the incident, an Indiana State Police trooper identified an individual that matched the description of the shooter during a traffic stop. BPD has identified the person ISP stopped as 21-year-old Isaiah Ramos of Linton, Indiana.

Ramos was one of three people in the vehicle ISP stopped, per BPD’s press release. All three of the vehicle’s occupants were detained and transported to the Bloomington Police Department for interviews.
During their interviews with witnesses at the scene of the crime, BPD detectives were led to believe Ramos and two other people were denied entry to a house party because one of the individuals had a visible handgun in their waistband.
BPD reported that Ramos and the two people he arrived at the party with demanded entry onto the premises. The demand sparked an altercation that spilled into a nearby alley. Police believe that, once the fight moved to the alley, Ramos fired a handgun into a crowd.
One of the men taken into custody with Ramos told police he had been shot. Officers reported that the individual did not actually have any injuries.
Ramos has been transported to the Monroe County Jail, per BPD. He has been preliminarily charged with murder and criminal recklessness.
Indiana court filings indicate an Isaiah Ramos of Linton was previously arrested for criminal recklessness in 2022. Court documents indicate the Ramos arrested in 2022 fired shots from a car with children present in the area.
It is unclear if the Ramos who was arrested in 2022 and the Ramos arrested Sunday are the same person.
BPD is still investigating the incident. Those with information on the shooting are encouraged to call Detective Rob Shrake at (812) 339-4477.
